Safer Recruitment

The safest schools don't just respond to risk, they screen it out before it walks through the door. Individuals who pose a risk to children choose their employers carefully, and international schools, with transient staff, varied vetting standards across jurisdictions and pressure to fill posts quickly, can be exactly what they look for.

This course trains the people who make hiring decisions to close that door.

Recruitment involves different people at different stages, so the training is built in modules. Choose the module that matches your part of the process, or complete all three for the full Safer Recruitment certification.

Every module includes three core elements:

​

- The International Context. The risks specific to global hiring, from inconsistent criminal record checks across jurisdictions to verifying overseas references.

​

- Recognising Bias. Identifying unconscious bias in recruitment decisions, and keeping the process fair, objective and safe.

​

- Understanding Grooming. The behaviours individuals use to groom schools, staff and students, and how they surface during recruitment.

​

Then each module focuses on one stage of the process:

- Module 1: Advertising and Screening. Writing job adverts and candidate information that signal a strong safeguarding culture from the outset, and reading CVs and application documents for red flags, inconsistencies and unexplained gaps.

 

- Module 2: Candidate Interviews. Planning interviews that put safeguarding at the centre, involving the right people in the process, and crafting questions that assess a candidate's understanding of and commitment to safeguarding.

- Module 3: References and Onboarding. Obtaining and verifying references properly, recognising the warning signs they can contain, and designing onboarding that sets safeguarding expectations from the first day of employment, not the first incident.

WHAT

Format: Delivered online or onsite.

​- Online, self-paced:

â—‹ Video modules and reflective tasks, approx. 3 hours per module.

â—‹ An optional 1-hour live workshop of Q&A and practical discussion to embed the learning.

​

- Onsite:

â—‹ A full day covering all three modules, or a half day focused on the modules most relevant to your team.

​​

Certification: CPD-certified, valid for two years. Certificates are issued per module, with the full Safer Recruitment certification awarded on completion of all three.


Fee: Online £45 per module, or £99 for all three. Onsite pricing and live online workshops are available on request.
