OUR TRAINING

Safeguarding Masterclass Series

Some safeguarding training builds awareness. This builds leaders.

DM Home Page_Grids (2).png
The Safeguarding Masterclass Series is a five-day professional development programme for experienced safeguarding leaders.

Across the week, one complex, realistic child protection case unfolds, and you work it as you would in post: assessing, deciding, and living with the consequences of each decision as the situation develops.

Around that running case, the week adjusts to those in the room, with shorter case studies and the real issues participants bring. Alongside leaders who carry the same responsibility you do, you build the judgement that only comes from working cases through, without a child's welfare depending on it.

Safeguarding Masterclass Series

The Masterclass is designed for safeguarding professionals who are already operating at a senior level. This is not a foundations course. The value lies in the depth of the work and the quality of the conversations, both of which depend on every participant bringing substantial experience to the room.

This programme is for you if:

  • You are an experienced Safeguarding Lead, DSL, CPO or equivalent, looking to work at a deeper level than standard training allows.

  • You are a senior leader or consultant who carries significant safeguarding responsibility and wants to sharpen your thinking and leadership under pressure.

  • You are early in your safeguarding leadership journey but are already responsible for complex or high-stakes concerns.

  • You are exploring the next stage of your career, whether that is strategic leadership, consultancy or wider influence in the field.

If you are unsure whether this programme is the right fit, get in touch. We are happy to have an honest conversation before you apply.

Inside the Masterclass

The programme works on three levels simultaneously.

Experience

The scenario unfolds across the five days, placing you inside a complex, high-stakes child protection situation with competing pressures, difficult personalities and no easy answers. You will navigate leadership, contextual, emotional and operational challenges in real time. You will also prepare for and practise the difficult conversations that come with the role: with parents, staff and senior leaders. At every stage, you will be challenged to keep the child's best interests central to your decision-making, even when other pressures are pulling in different directions. Participants are also invited to deliver a 45-minute workshop on a safeguarding topic they are passionate about. This is not compulsory, but it is highly recommended. It is one of the most powerful ways to raise your profile, test your thinking and contribute to the cohort.

Expertise

The expert-led sessions run throughout the five days, deepening your practice in the areas that matter most at senior level. Sessions cover crisis response, leadership strategy, risk and reputation, defensible decision-making and the practical tools and systems that make safeguarding resilient. There is also dedicated time for reflective peer supervision, giving you space to bring your own professional challenges into the room and work through them with experienced peers and specialist facilitators. You will leave with a practical toolkit of templates, strategies and resources you can use immediately, as well as personalised feedback on your leadership style and, if you deliver a workshop, on your practice as a trainer and presenter.

Community

The cohort is deliberately small. Every participant brings substantial experience to the room, which means the conversations go further and the peer learning runs deeper than most training environments allow. The connections made across the five days tend to last. Participants leave with a network of safeguarding leaders who understand the weight of the role and are working at the same level, across different schools, contexts and countries. As a Masterclass alumnus, you will also have exclusive access to the Alumni Portal, a dedicated space with resources, session materials and ongoing support from the Encompass team. For those interested in taking their practice further, the Masterclass also opens pathways into consultancy, training and wider influence in the field. One alumnus from the first cohort has already joined the Encompass associate network.

In Their Own Words

The most honest account of what the Masterclass delivers comes from those who have been through it.

"I’ve learned how to navigate a high-stakes crisis by maintaining a neutral, fact-based stance, ensuring that procedural fairness for staff and the safety of the child are balanced through a robust methodology."
Bryanna Tan
Deputy Safeguarding Lead, St Josephs Institution International
"Safeguarding has to be at the heart of the school - it impacts everything and everyone and success rides on it "
Pippa Gresham

Beyond the Masterclass

For those ready to take the next step.

The Masterclass is not just a professional development programme. For some participants, it marks the beginning of a new direction.

Graduates of the Masterclass are well placed to extend their influence beyond their own school, whether by delivering safeguarding training and consultancy independently, or by joining a wider network of specialists working at the highest level of the field.

Encompass Safeguarding actively supports alumni who want to explore this pathway. One graduate from the first cohort has already joined the Encompass associate network, working alongside the team to support international schools.

If this is something you are considering, we would love to hear from you.
