Safeguarding Review Service

Our Safeguarding Review Services

Safeguarding in an international school is not a policy document. It is a living culture - shaped by how leaders behave, how staff report concerns, how students experience care, and how the school responds when things go wrong. Our independent audit services are designed to examine all of that, not just the paperwork.

Every review we conduct involves two experienced senior consultants. This reflects best practice in the independent safeguarding sector. Two perspectives mean stronger triangulation of evidence, reduced bias, and a report your Board can stand behind with confidence. All findings are subject to independent internal moderation, producing an assessment and recommendations that are evidence-based, objective, and legally defensible.

Whether you are preparing for accreditation, seeking an honest internal benchmark, or responding to a specific concern, we will be straightforward about what type of review your school actually needs.

Comprehensive Safeguarding Review

An independent, onsite review that goes beyond compliance to examine how safeguarding is genuinely experienced across your school community.

Over several days on campus, our two consultants conduct in-depth interviews with your safeguarding team, leadership, and staff - including time set aside for anyone who wants to speak with us privately. Broader stakeholder voices, including students and parents, are gathered through confidential surveys distributed before the visit, giving people the time and space to respond honestly. We observe, trace cases, and walk the site - building a picture of how safeguarding is experienced in practice, not just on paper.. They test your systems against real scenarios. The result is an evidence-based assessment of not just what your policies say, but what actually happens - and what needs to change.

This is the review for schools that want the highest level of assurance: something defensible to a Board, meaningful to a regulator, and genuinely useful to the people responsible for keeping children safe.

What a Comprehensive Safeguarding Review examines:

  • Culture and Leadership - whether safeguarding is genuinely embedded at every level, from the Board to the classroom, and not simply reflected in policy documents or 'owned' by the Safeguarding Lead.

  • Governance and Accountability - the strength of strategic oversight, including how the Board understands and discharges its safeguarding responsibilities.

  • Safer Recruitment and Staff Vetting - how the school recruits, checks, and manages all adults who work with children, including Single Central Record audits, third-party providers, and contractors.

  • Systems, Records and Case Management - how concerns are identified, recorded, escalated, and resolved, and whether the school can evidence its decision-making through case tracing from low-level concerns to complex allegations.

  • Training, Knowledge and Competency - the quality and reach of safeguarding training across all staff groups, and whether it translates into confident, consistent practice.

  • Online Safety and Emerging Risk - how the school manages digital risk, including filtering, monitoring, and staff and student awareness of evolving threats such as AI.

  • Boarding and Residential Provision - for schools with boarding, a dedicated examination of the additional safeguarding responsibilities that residential life creates, including guardianship arrangements, out-of-hours oversight, and the particular vulnerabilities of students living away from home.

The Lived Experience - what makes our review different

Most reviews examine whether safeguarding policy is in place and whether it is being followed. Ours goes further.

We examine how safeguarding is actually felt - by the students who rely on it, the staff who deliver it, and the parents and governors who trust it. We also look closely at the experience of those leading child protection from the inside: whether your DSL and safeguarding team have the capacity, resources, supervision, and organisational support they need to do their jobs well.

This matters because a school can have excellent policies and still have a safeguarding team that is overstretched, under-supported, or operating without sufficient backing from leadership. That gap rarely shows up in a document review. It shows up when you have complex or crisis situations.

An internal audit cannot surface this. Ours can - because we are independent, because the people we speak to know that, and because we bring deep experience of the specific pressures and complexities that international schools face.

What you receive:

A comprehensive narrative report with an executive summary for the Board, RAG ratings, a risk register, and prioritised actionable recommendations. To support sustainable progress, the review includes accountability meetings at three and six months post-audit to guide your development roadmap.

Safeguarding Compliance Review

A structured, remote review designed for schools that want a clear, honest picture of where they stand.

Working through documentation, policy analysis, and video discussions with your safeguarding team, leadership, and key staff, this review identifies gaps, flags risks, and gives you a prioritised plan for improvement. It is aligned with KCSiE 2025 and international standards, and covers statutory priorities including policy alignment, safer recruitment verification, and Single Central Record compliance.

For some schools, a Compliance Review is the right place to begin: resolving immediate priorities, building a development roadmap, and laying the groundwork for a fuller review in time.

Pricing is tailored to the size and context of your school.

Not sure which is right for your school?

We'll be straightforward about what level of review your school actually needs.

"Sian walked around the school with us for less than an hour and pointed out the 10+ things that we had never noticed or considered. It was incredibly helpful for our future planning and it worked well just to have the verbal feedback  we could action quickly.
